Charlotte Conservatory Theatre launched in 2022 in an effort to rethink the "business of theatre-making." We wanted to change what budgets and professionalism looked like from their 1960s regional-theatre roots. Won't bore you with those fun facts. Bottom line, locally that meant real budgets for our local artists and larger theatrical production teams. Many of us in the area were used to "MacGyver Theatre" where a couple of people would perform all the duties of theatre's cottage industry with a pipe cleaner, duct tape, and poppers for sound fx.

Anyway, we decided to invest in artists as much as possible and make sure that design experts were in charge of each of the lovely theatrical languages---a "real" costume designer, sound designer, set designer, lighting designer, technical director, stage manager... in short, not asking the director to cover everything nor to move their living room furniture into the theatre for six weeks.

Although Warehouse Studio Theatre will provide a home for numerous producers inside its 80+ seat blackbox, Charlotte Conservatory will continue to produce shows at Booth Playhouse once or twice a year. We hope this will be a complementary season and opportunity for artists along with more intimate shows at Warehouse.
